#2 Pillows

Pillows are more important than you may think. When your neck and shoulders are in a good resting place, it keeps down the stress on your back.

#3 Noise Balance

There are so many options for relaxing noises to help sleep. My favorite is the Game Show Network. Popular sounds include ocean waves, rain, calm rainforest, or even a created sleep sound tack. Having something to focus on other than what may be going on around the house is a great idea.

#4 Sleep Mask

Finding a comfortable eye cove can be tricky and may take some getting used to. I worked third shift for several years and a sleep mask would have helped me so much.

#5 Exercise

We have found that doing more physical activity in a day makes for a more restful sleep. Just make sure it's not too close to bedtime though. Exercise too close to bedtime seems like an energy booster.

#6 Comfortable Sleep Wear

Be comfortable. There is no reason to dress in anything restricting. Or too loose for that matter. I had the most comfortable nightgown once. I woke up and it was twisted up under my armpits. I have not slept in oversized nightgowns since :)

#7 Relaxing Bath or Shower

There is nothing like taking a soothing water break at the end of the day. Letting the water soak up all of the tension from work, debates, and refereeing teenagers and toddlers. Not to mention, being nice and clean helps me sleep well.

#8 Just Relax in General

Relax in general. Try to get away from all of the electronics about an hour before you are ready to commit. You might not realize it while its happening but the digital stimulation takes awhile to shake off.

#9 No Late Naps

I get the need to nap. I understand that so much. I am up at 5 am and don't go to bed until about 12-1. About 2pm, I'm ready for full-on sleep, not rest. If I do, I don't sleep well for the few hours I do have set aside for real sleep.

#10 Go Pee First

That's a really important one for me. Go pee before the pillows are fluffed and you will thank yourself later.

#11 Shut the door (or use a gate)

Pudge, Lucky, and Jaxy- I love you. But, I don't sleep well when you push me off the bed. Keeping your little fur babies out of your bed will really increase your sleeping time if they are as hardcore snugglers as ours are.

#12 Sleep Patterns

I have noticed that I sleep better when I stay on a partially normal (to me) sleep schedule. I always get up at 5am, that doesn't change. But When I get to sleep around the same time every night, I find myself looking for the bedtime hours after a few days.

#13 Evaluate The Blankets

Blankets are really important to me. I like to have a blankey to snuggle up with. So does my husband. Over the past 10 years of being sleep buddies, we have found that getting a blanket that is one size bigger than the bed gives us those extra few inches so we don't tug-o-war all night.

#14 Essential Oils

Essential Oils are a great way to get in the sleepy zone. I use these fo my daughters to help them and it really works. Find the right blend for you and rub it on your hands and breathe it in or on your feet for a fast absorbing lasting therapy. A diffuser is also a great way to use the oils.

#15 A Good Book

Going in to the world of a great book is an awesome distraction from real world stress.

#16 Writing Down The Random Thoughts

Writing down all of the little things that keep running across your mind keeping you awake. Keeping a little note pad on your side table is a great idea.

I hope these little hacks are helpful to you.
