How many of you have little girls? Do you remember when you were little and you wanted to play dress up with your moms special stuff. That stuff you knew you couldnt touch because "Mommy said so".But, all the off limits stuff was so much more interesting than the stuff we knew we could play with.
I loved my moms make-up. It didn't have to match anything I had going on as far as wardrobe or shoes. The more colorful the better. My sister too. She was 2 years older than me and a fashion star from the day she was born.
My moms best friend her, whole life since grade school was a Latina woman with a caramel complexion and us having milky complexion (you will see why this is important to the story in just a minute) they weren't exactly the same. Her and my mom were both pregnant around the same time and both had daughters that were bound to be best friends, so their plans were.
That had proved to be true. Heather and Anna were as thick as thieves. We lived a few streets apart and saw them often. One morning my mom and her friend were in the kitchen doing mom stuff like drinking coffee and discussing life, husbands, and kids when Heather popped up and gave them a great surprise. She had painted her skin with a bronze nail polish so her and Anna could look like sisters.
The mess that was! She didn't have kids friendly beauty products and that was a disaster. The skin irritation, the mom speech of " I told you not to touch the stuff in my bathroom",and the tears of the clean up was enough to steer me away from getting into her pretty stuff until I was older. Not the nail polish anyway :)
