Family Game Night with Movie Buff from Kickstarter

It's Christmas Eves' Eve and here I am trying to get all of our festivities planned out. Tomorrow is a big day for us. In our house, every other year we swap out for who has Abby. This year is my year for Christmas Eve/Christmas morning. Oh yes, My Favorite!!

So, on Christmas Eve we like to do the regular stuff. Watch movies, play a game if we can get everyone interested, eat cookies, set out the letter from Santa, you know, the norm for Christmas Eve. Well were watching A Christmas Story for sure. Even if it's just playing in the background, it's not Christmas without it.
A few days ago I got an email that was so perfect. I had the opportunity to review Movie Buff. It's a game on Kickstarter right now. Well, my family is a huge movie watching group. We are always quoting movies and adding skits into our day. Tha's not just an "our house" thing. This is generational. We all do this. So, that being said, I knew I had to get this game.

Luckily, they were able to get it here before my favorite day of the year with these guys. I am so happy we get to play it all together.

It's so cool because it's Movie Buff . The expansions will be here later. For anyone that is not familiar with the game, here are the directions.
You can start with any card whether it be Movie, Actor, Role, or Quote in order to begin the game. The other players then continue to build on the previous selection by immediately following the first card with another trivia card. For example, let's say we start with the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
Then, the next person could theoretically follow up the movie with an actor card, for example, Harrison Ford. After the next people in rotation give us a Star Wars role/character along with a quote spoken by any character in the film, the take, or round as we say in our fancy movie talk, is completed and we're ready to roll the next production! With this in mind, we can jump to Raiders of the Lost Ark since Harrison Ford is in both movies, acting as our connector piece. The game then keeps going until one person runs out of their cards and wins the game, thus completing the scene or game!
In addition to the trivia cards we have awesome strategy cards that make production run smoothly; like Reverse Angle if you want to change the orientation of where the cards flow (clockwise or counter-clockwise) and Take Five for skipping your own turn. Cut! severs the the connections previously made and allows the next player to start a new take, while Edit will automatically complete any missing trivia and allow the player to jump to a new movie if they know the appropriate connector.
This is so simple to be so entertaining.  It's a card game that really gets your mind working. Pulling up all those movies reels from years past. trying to make a "Take" before anyone else. It's so much fun.

The decks of cards look like movie popcorn. and are really easy to manage. The hard cardboard case is a great storage box so the cards don't get lost. This is an awesome game for our family game night.

I received this for a free in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. If you have any questions about this product please feel free to email us directly at [email protected] or [email protected]
