Weighted Blanket for Restless Legs Syndrome

Have you heard of Restless Leg Syndrome? This was new to us a few years ago when Aron was diagnosed. We had no idea that his uncontrollable leg issues were a real problem and that so many other people suffer with it.

The Google description is as follows
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition in which you have an uncontrollable urge to move your legs, usually due to leg discomfort. It typically happens in the evenings or nights while you're sitting or lying down.
That is very accurate. It keeps him up at night and wakes him up when he does finally fall asleep. There isn't a cure that we have found for him. He had a surgery. and it's gotten so much worse. He barely sleeps for more than a naps length at a time.

Well, you know me, I don't write a post unless I have a problem and a solution. Or at least an idea of one. I am constantly looking for products that make life better. Hence, Amy & Aron's Real Life Reviews. I am always seeking products to make quality of life better.

I read about these weighted blankets from Mosaic Weighted Blankets to help with restless leg syndrome and some other common issues. They are recommended for sensory therapy for children, teens, and adults with ADD/ADHD, ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder). Popular solution for those with  sleep disorders and Restless Leg Syndrome, PTSD and Anxiety issues.

This is just so cool. I reached out to the company to see if they wanted to work with us and accepted.

I had so many questions. What weight does he need? What colors does it come in? Does it really work? who could I ask? Well, I found all of that out on their website.

There was a complete weight chart. The recommended weight is 10% of the body weight. So, that was simple enough.

When the blanket got here, We were so happy. It's soft and so comfortable I will be using this when he's not.

So for the texture-

This blanket is super smooth to the touch. No fuzzy spots at all. I have considered not giving it to Aron at all but keeping it for myself at my desk and not mentioning it to him so he would forget about it. It's that super cozy. Being that I am a good wife, I'm not going to do it BUT, It did cross my mind.

The Weight of It

It does have a nice weight and the comfort in the weight is surprising. We weren't sure what to expect because we had never seen one on our own before; just in pictures online. It's really nice. It's definitely different but, in a nice way.

The weight of the blanket makes his legs feel like they aren't trying to take off without him like they usually do.

Comfort

This is really cool in so many ways. The texture and weight combined are very comfortable. I thought it would be hot because of the extra weight and the filler inside the blanket BUT, it's not. It's actually cool.

The pouches keep the beans from falling to one end of the blanket. I had that happen in a super cozy comforter cover. No matter what happened, I had a puddle of blankets to one side. So irritating! Not with these little beans. The squares are big enough to allow them to spread evenly across his body with evenly distributed weight.

Effectiveness

This is amazing, to say the least, and not because I'm a happy blogger. With Aron's RLS, he doesn't get much relief from anything. Because of the meds he's on for his blood pressure, diabetes, and everything else, treating this with medication isn't an option because of drug interference. So, methods like this are all we have to look forward to.

The first day we had it, he brought it to bed with us. He had a reported 3 hours straight that he had no twitching, spasms, or anything to that nature. He said he felt like his legs were normal legs. He only got up because he had to go to the bathroom not because or his legs.

I noticed a difference because he didn't get me up. A normal night of sleep for me is going to bed between 12 and 1 waking up and staying up at 5. I know that's a short amount of time but I work from home full-time and I am a caregiver full time and a mom full time. During those 4-5 hours I have to rest, I am dodging legs and high-speed elbows from his constant struggle to get and stay comfortable.

I usually wake up tired from the battle of the night before. The next morning, I woke up not tired! It was a win! Since then, I have been bringing it to the living room so he can use it in his chair too. It's awesome.

I received this blanket for free to facilitate this review. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us directly at [email protected] or [email protected]

We love hearing from you.
