Now that school is back in full swing, we have so much going on. When do you have time for anything? These guys schedules are absolutely crazy! Long gone are the days that we shower every other day.
By any chance do you know what a teenagers gym bag smells like? What their uniforms smell like? Holy cow, not to mention what they smell like at times. YIKES doesn't cover it. Old Spice has a great campaign called Smellcome to Manhood, this is awesome for growing up. The struggle is real, how do you get through it all?
A true story I would like to share, I won't say any names because I don't want to publicly shame any of our kids so, here it goes.
So, it was a late evening and we had to pick the kiddo up from practice. It was a hot day and practice was a hard and long one. We got about half way home and I was complaining about road kill being pushed off the road left out and wondering who do we contact to have it removed. This was definitely an extremely pungent smell. I'm not sure if you have ever smelled a rotting carcass, living in the country, we have experienced it enough times to know what that is. It was bad!
After about 5 solid minutes, I realized the quite fragrant scent that was still burning my nose, was coming from inside our vehicle. I started to get worried thinking that maybe there was something hung under the van or even worse, stuck under the hood, I had so many possibilities running through my mind.
By this point, I was in my own little world trying to plan on who I was going to call to fix this issue. I did not want to get back in the van tomorrow and drive it to a shop, who knows how bad it would be by then. So the kids are all laughing and gagging at the smell at my confusion and hysteria. Out of nowhere, the smell went away. I was even more confused.
Want to know what it was. My kids' feet! 2 stubby chubby feet, 10 sweaty gross little toes, and 2 horribly stiff socks that could have doubled as boomerangs made our ride home like a trip to the sewage plant. I knew it was time for a long talk!!
So, when it comes to teens/preteens how do you bring up sensitive issues without making them feel uncomfortable? What can you say gently to not crush their already fragile sense of self? I mean really, saying something like- Hey, you're pretty ripe back there! would certainly hurt feelings.
We have a few really good ideas that will make a super serious talk a little less intimidating.
One approach is the complete science approach. Your body is changing and you will notice the changes by hair in new places, smelly sweat, and some other stuff. Let's work on a way to make it easier for you.
Another approach, the way we did it, we talked about "new soaps and deodorants". Bring up the fact that your young one isn't young anymore and moving into a more grown up department. Not just in clothing, style, and individuality. It's time to start treating your body like a grown up.
We partnered up with Old Spice to help by showing some awesome products that are great to recommend to your little man that's actually turning into a man. My husband loves the Old Spice brand. I do too. I remember my dad using it when I was little.
Do any of you remember the white glass bottle? It was after shave I believe. Old Spice has definitely evolved over the years. The scents they have come out with are absolutely amazing. Whether it's for a mature man or a youthful man, they have something for everyone in between.
We got a very cool assortment of their products.
For The Hair- Krakengard 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner
For The Pits- Wolfthorn Antiperspirant & deodorant
For The Body- Bearglove Body Wash
Body Spray- Hawkridge ReFresh Body Spray
What are your best "changing" stories? Did you cry? Turn a hose on them and toss them a bar of soap? I want to hear all about it!
We received these products for free to facilitate this review. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us directly at [email protected] or [email protected]
