I know this may sound a little off topic for what we have been discussing lately but, I have a serious question. Do you have an emergency plan in place in case of fires? Our kids come home every year with the evacuation plan for the family safety, the map of the house and yard and list of things to check for. We go through the lists and check it all off but other than a smoke alarm with carbon dioxide monitor and fire extinguisher, we don't have anything else to help us.
My youngest daughter has had a huge fascination with "End of Days" catastrophe scenarios. She is constantly discussing our backup plans, who would drive which car and how we would be able to escape harm. Believe it or not, for 11 years old, she has some really good ideas that I wouldn't have thought of.
I had the opportunity to work with iEvac® by Elmridge Protection Products to review an iEvac® Smoke/Fire Hood. This is so awesome for so many reasons. It doesn't just protect against harmful smoke. It protects against so much more.
- Carbon Monoxide
- Hydrogen Sulfide
- Additional Toxic Gases: sarin, smoke, hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, tear gas, OC, and more
- Harmful Particulates: soot, fumes, aerosols, and others
- Life-Threatening Physical Hazards: flammability and radiant heat
The features on this hood are remarkable. I'm so happy stuff like this is available for regular people that want to be able to keep their family safe during an emergency.
One of the key features that I love is how easy it is to use. I have the Demo hood (same as evacuation hood, just no foil bag) to evaluate and it's really neat.
Above is a full description of the hood and all of the features so you can see what I am talking about.
One main thing that I would question as a consumer, will I feel like I am suffocating? The answer is no. I mean, yes, there is a bag on your head but it (the cup) goes around/over the nose and mouth so there is no bag and it doesn't cover your mouth. There is a silicone neck dam which makes for a snug barrier with added smoke protection.
I was checking out the testing and certifications on this equipment and I am more than impressed. In most tests, the hood passed with double, triple, and more in some cases, the requirements. Seriously, the requirement for Particulate aerosol 0.185 micron is >95%. The hood scored an astounding 99.996%. That is awesome. They have a list of all of the certifications and tests for the consumers to check out. I think they might be bragging, and with all rights to do it.
The hood is one size and can be worn with glasses, facial hair, and long hair. Aron worked at a chemical plant years ago, they had a similar hood for him to use, it was a high-risk job. He couldn't have any facial hair and his head hair couldn't be more than 3 inches long on the top and had to be trimmed at his neck. That was the rule but, he had a shaved head so it wasn't a big deal for that. I was sad to see his goatee go. Boy, that was a surprise.

They really work and could save your reader's life in case of emergency. They are the only American certified smoke/fire hood that is also certified as a qualified anti-terrorism technology by US Department of Homeland Security. If you are looking for extra safety measures in your home, this is a good one. It has a 5 1/2 year shelf life. This is an awesome investment for family safety and smoke protection.
