We have been working on several "home" themed posts lately in celebration of my niece getting her own apartment. She has worked so hard to make it all happen and I am so proud of her. Something I have taken for granted is all of the stuff that I've acquired over the years. Looking around the house and thinking what she might need to get started, things get overlooked. Her apartment was empty when she moved in, completely empty. It's been 10 years since I completely started over with only my personal things to set me on my way. It's been an adventure, to say the least. A super fun and exciting one.
To be honest, I was honored to be able to be a part of her doing all of this. Being able to set everything up from the bottom up, the way you want it without your elders telling you where it goes or it already being set up for you for one reason or another is pretty exciting. And even though I still see a 3-year-old little girl asking me if I am "cazy suthum" Crazy or something, when I look at her, I am proud of the young woman and mother she has become. It's so weird walking through the house and doing the nightly tuck in and her not being here.
