Crayola Thank A Teacher Contest #CrayolaThanks Ends 8/25

Over the past few years, we have done several projects with the Crayola brand. This year, to no surprise, they have come up with something absolutely amazing! The Thank A Teacher program is an amazing way to give thanks to all of those awesome teachers.

Crayola has a goal of 1,000,000 Thank You's for all of those devoted teachers. Anyone that would like to enter can submit a daily entry on the Crayola website. You can upload a Thank You note for their chance to win a $10,000 classroom makeover, $1,000 for you and your teacher and even have your thank-you note featured on a box of Crayola crayons!

Ten grand prize packs will be awarded, inclusive of:

  • $10,000 classroom makeover for the teacher
  • One year supply of Crayola products for the school
  • $1,000 scholarship for the student
  • $1,000 gift card for both the teacher and school
  • Free CreatEd seminar for the school

In addition to the grand prizes, one lucky entrant will have his or her thank you note featured on a special pack of Crayola crayons this holiday. In addition, a weekly sweepstakes will run concurrently with the contest, offering entrants a chance to win $500 gift cards for themselves and their teachers.  The contest and sweepstakes will run through August 25, 2018.
Since the first box of crayons rolled off the line in 1903, Crayola has celebrated teachers. We started with Alice Binney, teacher and wife of one of our founders, who coined the name Crayola by combining the French terms for "chalk" and "oily." We continue to work with teachers, bringing innovative products, creativity-infused lesson plans, coaching, and product and grant donations. Now we are on a mission to reach 1 million teacher thank-yous! Who will you thank?

For this contest, you can be as creative as you want! You can draw any picture and put it on any paper or you can easily download a printable thank you note and color it in yourself. There are so many ways to say Thanks.

All teachers come in different shapes and sizes. They teach different subjects and do completely different roles in our lives. While some teach us a subject to prepare for the next class, some teach us lessons that we will remember or the rest of our lives.  I have a few that are most definitely worth sharing.

My Grama Vera was a school teacher when I was little. She moved over to special needs kids and did an amazing job. I lived with her when my oldest daughter was little and she worked so hard with her. She said that there was no excuse, she had a teacher for a great grama, she needed to only make a 100% on everything. I thought she was kidding, she wasn't Abby made a 100% on everything!!

Do you have a favorite teacher? It has been such a long time since I was in school so the teachers that I would like to thank have since retired teaching. There are so many teachers that impacted my life in different stages of my life.

The first teacher I would like to mention Mrs. Supmter, 6th-grade teacher at Murphy Elementry School '92/'93. She was an awesome teacher with a great sense of humor. This was a very hard year for me, moving to a new state and a new school district in the middle of a school year was really hard for a kid. Instead of singling me out and making it worse, she lightened the load completely with laughter. She read us The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka. Maybe I was a late bloomer as far as reading goes, I didn't like it very much but that book right there bridged a gap between a new student and 25 other peers.

Mrs. Loche- Mountain Youth Center '98, taught English and Science for several of my high school years. She was also an amazing artist. She had a way of bringing real life into the classroom. It wasn't just about the lessons she was teaching. It was about all of the things we were experiencing as teens and as individuals. We were learning without feeling like we were learning. She was such a nurturing woman. She was like a mom to all of us.

Mr. Carr. His name is just one statement. He was the dean and physical education teacher of the students in our school and did so much more than teach us. I thought I was cool and didn't need school anymore. So I left school and decided I would just work instead. Who needed school anyway?

He called every morning to see if I wanted to go to school. "Amy Norton, You going to school today?" I told him no I didn't want to. It became routine. I knew he was going to call. Until one morning he didn't. He waited until lunch. That whole morning I sat there wondering why he didn't call. He called after lunch. When I answered the phone, I cried and told him I was ready to come back to school. He came to my house and got me. I got to school in enough time to sign back into school and get on the bus and go home. I graduated because of him.

I have thought of him so many times over the years. He is doing so many amazing things for kids. He didn't just stop with our school. The last I heard has a foundation for youth sports.

That is only three of the most amazing people I have encountered in my life.

Who would you thank? Is there a special teacher that went the extra mile to make a difference in your life?

  1. This is a really nice way for Crayola to give back. I think we all had special teachers at some point.
