Quick Airport Tips and Tricks for Your Next Flight

Want to make sure that you get the most out of your next flight?

As fun as traveling can be, the process of actually getting to your destination can feel exhausting and boring at the best of times. It pays to have a few tips in mind for how you can have fun and improve your experience when you're on your way to distant shores.

To help you improve those days spent traveling, we've put together some quick tips that are sure to keep you comfy and happy - no matter how long your flight takes.

Keep It Loose

It's easy to spot someone in an airport who's not used to flying very often. Just look for the person who's spruced up and looking as though they're heading to a club or business meeting, rather than going on vacation. If you really want to be comfortable on a flight, then you need to dress for comfort, not fashion.

This means wearing your loosest clothing, with plenty of layers that you can strip on and off depending on how you feel temperature-wise. It's also a good idea to keep your footwear loose too, as that will make it easier to slip your shoes on and off at the security gate.

Don't Hurry, Be Happy

A lot of people in airport settings assume that they have to rush to be the first through the gate. However, the truth is that rushing through the check-in process, unless you're running late for your flight, just means that you have more time to sit in the lounge waiting for your plane to board.

In most circumstances, the later you can check into your flight, the better. Not only will checking in later help to remove some of the stress from your boarding experience, but it also means that your bags will be on the plane close-to-last, which also ensures that your luggage is the first to come back out at the other end of your trip.

Grab Yourself a Nicer Seat

If you've got an aisle seat and you'd be much happier near the window, simply ask the air stewardess or steward whether they have any open window seats you might be able to switch to. Show her your seat number and let her know that you'll be able to sleep better if you can rest your head against a window. Or simply explain that you have issues with air sickness, but you'll feel much better when you're near a window.

Although you won't always get a better seat this way, the steward or stewardess will know to come and find you if they spot an open seat that might be better for you. Who knows, you might even wrangle yourself a free upgrade.

Bring Your Own Headphones

If you're on a long-haul flight, this is particularly important, as you don't want to be bored for the whole trip. Make sure you bring your headphones with you, so you don't have to rely on the terrible-quality ones that you get on most airlines.

If you're traveling solo, a great way to make friends with the person sitting next to you is to bring an earphone splitter so you can share your entertainment with your neighbor. You'd be surprised how many friends and romantic connections you can make on a plane with a little bit of music, or the opportunity to tune in to a great show.

Red Wine Your Way Through the Red Eye

By no means are we recommending that you get drunk before you go on your flight here. In fact, drinking too much before you go anywhere could mean that you end up getting removed from a plane, or that you're not able to board at all. However, if you've got a red-eye flight booked and you want a drink or two to help you relax, red wine is the right way to go.

A glass or two of red wine can be a fantastic helper when you want to get some additional sleep, and you've got the bonus of looking incredibly classy to all the people around you too.

Don't Panic

Finally, if something goes wrong when you're at the airport, don't lose your head. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you hear news of a flight delay or cancellation but keep your wits about you. Simply load up your smartphone and look for some advice about any compensation you might be eligible for while you're waiting to talk to an airline rep.
