Healthcare Problem Prevention At Work

Work is just something you’ve got to do. It's a part of life and it's something we all have to get used to. But what none of us ever have to get used to is our health failing because of our work. Work should never go to the point where we go out in the morning feeling fine, and in the evening upon returning we are in immense pain. In fact, we shouldn’t ever feel like we’re degrading healthwise at our jobs. All too often, however, we are all feeling the effects of our jobs in our personal lives. We only get one mind and one body, so we must take care of them both. There are some things you can do to prevent being overcome by your work and slowly watching your own health fade. Remember that it all depends on your job first of all so it's all relative and subjective to your own health concerns.

Hearing and construction

The construction industry might be more advanced than it ever was today, but the actual work of building and maintaining is still hands-on. Massive, heavy and loud tools are used to dig, rip up, bash, bury and move around things in the daily life of a construction worker-. The safety has also improved but this is mostly in very large companies. Smaller and independent companies still demand that the worker is primarily responsible for their own wellbeing. The big concerns such as our limbs and vitals are of course a major point of interest regarding our clothing. It's a pity then that our hearing isn’t given as much thought.

Making sure that you are conscious of your hearing could help with tinnitus prevention in your case. If you’re constantly surrounded loud noises, you could end up with a white noise that you hear even when you’re not at work. It's a good idea to go and visit an audiologist who can diagnose and treat your condition. They may also recommend prevention tips such as wearing earmuffs and or earplugs. Don’t rely on your job to provide you with hearing protection, always take your own with you to work.

Don’t overwork yourself

In the pursuit of a promotion, you may want to stay and work long hours that filter out late into the night. By all means, you should reach out to your passions and seek to raise your foot higher on the career ladder. Yet, don’t forget that your health is irreplaceable. Overworking can lead to stress, depression, anxiety and a general sense of fatigue. For many people, they don’t even know they are overworked, because a stressful life just becomes normal for them. We can see ourselves become less and less fit and more and more emotionally exhausted, yet we carry on as if it's just part of the job.

You have the opportunity to prevent serious damage to your mental wellbeing. You can limit the number of working hours you do during the week if things get very tough. Taking time off when you’re not in the middle of a busy work schedule helps a lot. Don’t wait until it's the holiday season, take time off from work as and when you need it. Just a few weeks away from work can prevent so many health scares without you knowing it.

Make some suggestions

Working in an office isn’t free from healthcare issues regarding safety. A busy office has plenty of areas which could potentially lead to some injuries. Loose wires on the ground is one of the more common causes for tripping and landing awkwardly. A lack of fresh air can also bring on a headache or even a migraine, so proper ventilation and smooth airflow are essential. Open sockets are not advisable as liquids and or equipment can accidentally enter into them. A healthy environment that encourages employee engagement is also a great way to stay mentally positive.

Stress levels have been known to decrease and produce happier employees when workers can make suggestions about how their workspaces can be improved. This also helps productivity rise but crucially it brings a certain satisfaction to the job. Ask your superiors if you can make some constructive suggestions on how work life could be developed.

Our professional lives are very important to us. They put food on the table, pay our bills and also give us a sense of accomplishment. Don’t chase that promotion to the detriment of your health, you should value your physical state more than your role at work because that is irreplaceable. Get some protective equipment for your work if you are working in construction. Seeing a specialist for any hearing concerns is advisable.

  1. We have illness going through our offices all year. I now wear exam gloves all day and a mask to avoid the germs and disinfect everything nightly.

  2. Thank you for sharing. I work part time. I don't know how much longer I will because I had breast cancer and it seems like after the treatments it's slowing me down.
