This year has definitely been filled with its own unique challenges. We are finding new ones every day. Currently, the school year from home is our biggest adventure. This is nothing like our homeschool adventure a few years ago. This is completely different. We are doing the public school curriculum at home with a laptop as our only resource. There is so much more needed. I know the internet has all of the information in the world but, it does not have hands-on learning features. Our family and our home are not set up like classrooms and it's been a little tough at times.
This year we are doing remote learning with face to face class 2 hours on Wednesday. There are so many new things to learn for the whole family. The biggest lesson so far, how distracting we can be. We aren't actually teachers. As much as I would like to think I can do anything I set my mind to, helping educate my child is something that I feel is more challenging than I ever anticipated. Like I said before, it's so much different than regular homeschool.
Concentration is tough. Being not so distracting to my child and trying not to be distracted myself, is a whole new process. Soundproof rooms would be AMAZING! But, that's not quite an option. Not until we find out if this is a full-time permanent situation anyway.
One thing that is an option is noise-reducing headphones. They are made for peoples of all ages and head sizes so when you get yours make sure you get the right size. They are more comfortable than earplugs and they don't play music either. That is something that we really needed. Our daughter loves listening to music but, if she listens to music while she works on her assignments she isn't as productive. At any moment she will start singing, dancing, and doing art doodles.
I just got my daughter the EM030 kid's protection safety earmuffs. These are perfect for our new schooling situation. She can read without hearing me walk through the house, talk on the phone, clean, or be bothered by the dogs barking. They have a full-time job of that. They don't let my daughter's classes or my work interfere with their job, how thoughtful.
She likes the earmuffs because they bring everything down to a tolerable level They make the sounds she does hear not so distracting. I love it that they are so small they are completely portable. They have their own little yellow drawstring bag that they can go in it to keep them clean. She can toss them right into her backpack and she can use them at home, in the car, at grammy's, or anywhere that she will be comfortable working.
For instance today, we are at the hospital for my husband's infusions. We're sitting in the parking lot waiting, it'll be about 2 hours until he's done so we thought it would be a great time to try to finish up for the week. With all of the traffic and other hustle and bustle, it's very disturbing when we are trying to accomplish anything. That's where the earmuffs come into play. She can work without hearing all of it. Meaning I can write this post without her talking me ears off and complaining. It's a win-win for both of us!!
These earmuffs are great for other reasons too. Concerts, fireworks, kids that have sensory issues, air shows, races, and more. Any place that you want to hear but hear less, these are a great option. The comfort level is great too. They have a super thick pad that cushions the ear instead of smashing it into the side of her head. She is loving it because when I call to her to clean her room, swap out the laundry, or let the dogs out, she says she couldn't hear me because she was wearing her new awesome earmuffs.
