I am sure you can tell, I like to use as much of my holiday-themed accents as I can to make the pictures look festive and fun. This year, we set the tree up extra early so I have been using that along with my holiday wall tapestry.
In this post, I want to go over a few great ideas to get your holiday pictures looking as beautiful as you dream they will be!
Background
The background of a picture is almost as important as the object you are focusing on. You don't want your object of focus to blend in and get lost in the background. You want to make sure your background image accents your object not swallows it.
I just got the Christmas background from YuniMuse on Amazon and I love it! This is my first Christmas background that isn't a flat color or sparkling single color. It's perfect for a wall hanging, a tablescape, and a backdrop. The backdrop comes in two sizes, I chose the 59"x78" size because it fits my area better.
This is a great quality backdrop and the image is so clear and festive. It showcases Santa with his sleigh and reindeer, a Christmas tree, gifts, and a family of snowmen. The top border of the wall tapestry has pine tree garland with beautiful ornaments hanging and has stars all over the red background.
Lightning
So, here is my beast. Lighting! I always have a problem finding the right angle and type of lighting. My biggest pet peeves are shadows in the picture and glare off of packing. My best results come with using clip-on lighting fixtures with high output light. With these clip-on lights, I can direct the light where I need it instead of moving my setup to catch the light that stationary light is putting off. They are portable and inexpensive.
Props
Photography props are very great for giving your pictures depth. You will want to make sure you have enough space to display your centerpiece without overcrowding. This is is the same concept as the background. You don't want to bury your object, you want to show it off. Adding props to a picture can add layers and movement to a still image.
Stage
You will definitely want to find the perfect stage for your object to sit on. I have used so many odd things under a blanket, you would be surprised. From large to tiny, you can find the right thing, just get creative. As an example, one time I used a handful of my daughter's leftover aquarium gravel with a scarf over it to stage earrings. It was the right size to give the jewelry center stage. I've also used the mossy hill in my yard to display products, it's a natural-looking spot that is easy to get close to. Get creative and find your inspiration!
