What kind of winter activities do you do with your friends and family? When I was little we lived in the mid-west and there was snow for months at a time. We had to bundle up to even be allowed to go outside and play. I remember a few occasions that it was a winter temp advisory and it was too cold to go outside.
On the days that it was nice cold weather with snow, we would make snowmen and snow angels. We would have contests to see who could make the biggest snowman. I started with a big snowball and rolled it in the packing snow, yes, for the people that don't live around snow, there are different kinds and some that are better for playing in The good packing snow makes the best snowmen. So, I started with a snowball and started rolling it. I rolled it all the way around our house from our sidewalk on one side, through the side yard, around the back, and up to our driveway on the other side. It was the PERFECT snow. The snowball had grown to a big enough size and weight that it was picking it up like a magnet. The bottom of my snowman was too heavy to carry across the driveway and was taller than my belly button.
I was pretty mad because I wanted to get my snowman to the sidewalk side of the yard but there was no way! I was out there for a few hours rolling snowballs to make snowmen. It was so much fun. I have made a lot of snowmen in my lifetime but that was the biggest and the best I had ever made. It was taller than me. I was only about 10 years old so it wasn't one for any public record books but it was the best one I had ever made.
To be able to play in the snow you have to have good waterproof suits to keep yourself dry and warm, hats, gloves, and long johns. It gets really cold playing outside in the snow.
There are so many other activities too. Sledding is a blast. There was a HUGE hill in the Lockport Illinois part that my dad brought us to in the late '80s. There would be so many people sledding on it. All we had to do was get to the top with our sled sit down and fly like the wind down this thing. It was so much fun. Because of where we moved to as adults, there is barely any snow. I have never taken my kids sledding. The closest thing our youngest got was sliding down our hill because it was too icy. That was hysterical!
