How The Pandemic Has Changed Our Values

The past year has been a challenging one. Thanks to Covid, we have been forced to completely change the way that we live, turning our usual habits, routines and actions on its head. We’ve been unable to just pop out for dinner like we used to, hop on a plane for a long weekend away and go to large concerts and events. No matter where in the world you are living, our lives have all been impacted in one way or another. While it has been a hard year, there are also some benefits that have come out of it too. After all, anything that forces us to stand back and take a look at how we live our lives is going to teach us something. As the vaccine rollout continues and the light continues to show at the end of the tunnel, it is a time to reflect on how it has changed our lives for the positive and what might be different once we come out of this the other side. Here is how the pandemic has changed us for the better…

It has shown us what really matters in life

There’s nothing quite like a global pandemic to show you what really matters in life! While before we might have sweated over the small stuff, the pandemic showed what was really important. We have missed our families, friends and loved ones. Whether it’s having a dinner party, shopping for the random but important things such as accessories for the ninja foodi grill with your Dad on a weekend, or just going for a walk with your sibling, these have all been things we have missed. Many have reevaluated their career choices and others have moved house to be out of the city.

It has made us focus on our health

Health is so important, but the pandemic has really highlighted that. More and more people have been eating better, forcing themselves to do workouts, taking vitamin D and aiming to be healthier all round. We have all become better at social distancing, washing our hands and carrying out sanitizer to ensure we are kept protected from germs whenever we are out.

It has made us realize the value of experiences

The pandemic has helped to make us less materialistic, placing value on experiences over objects. It has shown us that what we miss most are the things that we go out to do, not the things we have. People are expected to book much more meaningful breaks away and do more dinners or experiences as soon as it is widely acceptable.

These are just a few ways that the pandemic has changed our lives and our values and is something that we won’t forget for a long time to come. While the world turns a leaf and we are hopefully coming out of this on the other side, we must remember to take this all away with us and not forget how the pandemic made us feel and behave.
