What Is A Healthy Lifestyle?

This is such a loaded question and one that will get you varied answers due to the multitude of ways to be healthy. But the general consensus and simplest concept are by doing and eating things that make you happy and support your body.

For one person a healthy lifestyle could be running 5 miles daily, following the healthy Keto diet whilst enjoying the company of their closest loved ones daily. Whilst for another it could be completing yoga stretches daily, whilst having a take away twice a month. Neither is right or wrong. Both are just perfect for the individual completing them.

That all being said, if you are looking to make changes to your lifestyle to include more health benefits there are certain small changes you can make an excellent stepping stone to making these lifestyle changes.

Try And Eat A Variety Of Foods

In order to have a healthy balance of all the 40 nutrients needed to support health within your body, you need to eat a good variety of foods. No single food type can provide the full mix. So consider the meals you’ll have throughout the day and try to get a well-balanced mix across them.

Consider And Review What Fats Are Within Your Diet

There are different types of fats within foods. Saturated, unsaturated, and trans. It is important within any balanced diet that you still consume fats, but the source of the fat should be considered and the amount limited. Too much could cause impacts such as weight gain and negatively impact your health.

So tips to be mindful of when meal planning would be limiting the number of saturated fats being consumed weekly, eat fish 2-3 times a week, with 1 of these being an oily fish. Also, when cooking where possible try not to fry your food, instead consider steaming or baking in the oven.

Eat Lots of Fruit And Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables provide a good dose of fiber, vitamins, and nutrients your body needs to function well. It is advised to eat a minimum of 5 a day, although if you can have more the better. If you find your intake currently of fruit and vegetables on the lower side a good way to increase your intake is by making a few little daily changes. Examples being switching your morning coffee to a glass of fruit juice, eating fruit as your midmorning snack, grating vegetables and mixing them into meals, or having your dinners with a side of salad.

Drink More Water

You need to drink a minimum of 11-15 cups of water a day depending on your gender to keep your body healthy. So along with meal plans and being mindful of your food intake plan out your drinks to ensure this is being met.
