At what age did you achieve perfect skin? Just kidding! I know perfect skin doesn't come at a certain age, it seems like for me, that isn't possible, EVER! I have never met anyone with perfect skin. So, a more realistic question is, what do you do to get rid of blemishes and problematic skin issues? I have struggled with breakouts forever. I always feel like when I am having a breakout, that's the first thing people see when they look at me, I think it's because it's the first thing I look for as I scan my reflection.

I am not a scientist or skincare professional but, I do have 40 years of experience with skin so hopefully, my advice helps.

So, what do you do with blackheads? My most common practice is the pinch, squeeze, cleanse, and hope for no irritation or sores. I have tried a blackhead removal tool kit, that is ok but, hurts. There is nothing like jabbing yourself just a little too hard with a long tweezer with a loop on the end because you didn't realize you were so close, mirrors, ugh.

My daughter uses a blackhead removal vacuum and loves it. She says it clears blackheads easier with little effort, that's a goal, right? Work smarter not harder. It removes blackheads and blemishes with suction instead of pressure and it doesn't leave marks like picking does. So, I got one from Anwick on Amazon. Why do I have oily skin?

This is a good question, let me tell you what I know. Everyone's skin produces oils to help moisturize the skin, those oils can overproduce causing oily skin and sometimes clogged pores and acne. Genetics, hormone changes, or even stress may increase sebum production. Oily skin and acne are challenging to manage at times.

Managing oily skin and breakouts

Finding a good way to manage oily skin can be hard, it takes time to find a regimen that works for you. With several contributing factors, it may be a combination of several things including cleansing, diet, and of course, manually removing blackheads.

Skincare is a very personal event. What works for other people's skin might not be what works for yours, that's why there are so many products on the market these days. Be patient and don't try too many products at once. You don't want to make a worse situation for yourself. Some products can over dry and irritate your skin balance while others may make you more oily, it's a process of elimination for the most part.

The first line of defense is figuring out what kind of skin you have and coming up with a routine that fits your schedule. Finding a way to deal with the excess oil is a key factor in managing breakouts (for me anyway). Don't forget to be gentle with your skin, it is very forgiving and can handle a lot of wear and tear but your skin is your friend and the only organ you can see with your own eyes. If your skin isn't happy it can disrupt your whole day or several days depending on the damage.

On with it already, right?

You have your beauty products figured out and the oils are under control, somewhat, now you want to get rid of the blackheads and blemishes.
