Make Sure You Don't Forget These Home Maintenance Tasks in 2022

Owning your own home is great. You have security and stability and somewhere where you can stay until you decide to move, and somewhere you can make memories for many years. However, it can sometimes feel relentless and often thankless when you spend all of your precious free time and hard-earned cash on sorting out the inevitable problems that crop up year after year. There will always be something else to do, but you always seem to feel as though you are forgetting something. Here, we have put together a list of a few of the home maintenance jobs that need doing that you may be overlooking.

1. Checking your roof

Your roof is not something you tend to look at very often, and you can’t see the top of it. Because of that, you may not notice missing roof tiles, holes, or a build-up of debris. It is essential to regularly check your attic space for any signs of leaks from the roof, and once a year, get a professional to go up and give it a check over. This can include an insulation check and if needed the professional can suggest you an attic insulation installation service too. This might cost you a fee, but it is a lot cheaper than suddenly discovering a huge problem that needs fixing there and then.

2. Drains and gutters

This task is especially important before entering the winter months and after they have passed. A professional drain cleaning service is particularly useful if this is just another task that you do not have time or the equipment for. If your drains and gutters become clogged and blocked, they risk overflowing, and this can cause severe structural damage to your property.

3. Pest control

Sometimes, the first sign of an invasion of pests is when we see them, and at this point, they can be tough to get rid of. If this is the case, you may well need to contact local exterminator. Keep an eye out in spots such as the kitchen, mattresses, the loft, the basement, and woodwork for signs of pests - fleas, bed bugs, woodworm, and rodents are just a few that you want to watch out for. If you have pets, make sure that you keep up to date with flea and worm treatments. Make sure that any holes in the walls of your home or pipes going in and out of your home are fixed and sealed, preferably with a material that cannot be chewed through by rodents. If you have large trees and bushes in your garden, trim them back and make sure no branches are touching the roof to act as a ‘bridge’ for any animals that might decide to make themselves at home in your house.

Of course, these are just three of the jobs that you may not always remember to stay on top of - there are plenty more. So keep a diary or a planner and make a note of the jobs that need doing weekly, monthly, and annually, and make sure that you do them - it will save you money and hassle in the long run.
