Putting Your Health First This Year

We tend to have a lot on our list of priorities. We think about work. We think about socialising. We think about our hobbies. Most of us have a whole host of other commitments. It’s not all too surprising, then, that many of us let things that we take for granted slip aside. Our health tends to be one of these things. Most of us will only think about our bodies, mind and health when something is going wrong and we are unwell. This mindset needs to change. Our overall well being needs to be at the forefront of our minds at all times - and we should do what we can to put it first and work on it for the better whenever we can. So, where should you start out if you’re planning on attaining this in 2022? Here are some suggestions to get you started out!

Keeping Up with Health Appointments

There are health appointments that we should all stick to. They give healthcare or medical professionals an opportunity to check in on you and put any issues that they find to rights. Here are some to schedule in.

Dental appointments - of course, you should go to the dentist if you are experiencing any problems with your teeth or gums. But even if your teeth and gums feel fine, you should still check in once every six months. A general checkup will help your dentist to identify any problems with your teeth and gums before they start causing you pain or dental damage. Check in with a hygienist too. They’ll make sure that your teeth are clean.

Optician appointments - you should go to the optician once every two years. This will help them to check in on your vision and to prescribe lenses for you if you’re identified as near or long sighted.

General health appointments
- your doctor may invite you to general health check ups, or routine examinations, such as smear tests or routine vaccination appointments. If you are disabled, routine appointments may be more regular and your doctor may be able to provide you with free disability advice.

Taking You-Time

All too many of us try to fit too much into our schedules and end up burning out. It’s important that you take time to yourself, rather than constantly worrying about and fitting in work or social commitments. Use this time in a way that benefits you. Maybe you need some rest. You could take a nap or simply relax with a film or book. You might want to follow a personal pursuit. Consider hobbies or clubs that will nurture this. You may want to catch up wih loved ones. Whatever it is you want to do that will give you a break, make sure to make time for it.

These are just a few areas to focus on entering the new year. Hopefully, some will work for you and will help you to put your health and personal needs first going forward!
