There is something special about a handwritten note. It's so much more intimate than digital messaging. An email or text will get the message across but it's not as special or heartfelt, in my opinion.
When do you send a Thank You card?
When I was younger, I wasn't sure when a Thank You card is needed. My first mother-in-law shared her thoughts on the matter 22 years ago and it always stuck with me. If someone is going out of their way to give a gift in light of a celebration or special occasion, a thank you card is necessary.
Money is hard to come by and if someone is willing to take the money they earned and share it with you by way of a gift (material gift or financial gift), saying thank you in a card is something you should do. Before her insight, I thought simply saying thank you were good enough. It was at our wedding that I saw what she was meaning. We had nearly 100 people in attendance and so many people celebrated with us by way of gifts instead of attendance. Thank you cards for everyone were the best thing to do.
During celebration- Bridal/Baby Shower, Graduation, Birthday, Wedding/Anniversary, Etc.
Friends, family, and co-workers will love to shower with you gifts and celebrate with you when you have milestone accomplishments. Graduating, getting married, welcoming a new baby into your life, and birthdays are just some of the great gift-giving times. Letting them know that their gift is appreciated will mean a lot to them.
In times of wellness following an illness
When you are ill and someone goes out of their way to give you support, a Thank You card is the perfect way to tell them you appreciate the way they helped you through it.
Some people will send food to make it easier on you while you recover. Some people may sit with you so you are not alone. Some people will help you with day-to-day chores so you can take the time to rest.
All of those efforts should be recognized and appreciated. It takes a special person to come and help you when you are down.
Co-Workers/Employees
Thanking a co-worker or employee for a job well done or for participation on a project is a nice way to boost morale in the work environment. People are so much more productive when they feel appreciated.
Family and Friends
You might think that family and friends automatically know how much you appreciate them. To be honest, you are probably right. BUT, saying thank you for being there for you when you needed them, helping you in a special way, or anything that they did to make you feel special, is a great reason for a Thank You card.
How do you choose a card?
Being an adult, having Thank You cards on hand is something that I have always liked to do. When it comes to choosing the right cards it's good to decide if you want to go with a themed set or something that matches your address labels. Maybe you are looking for assorted cards that look pretty. I personally like assorted card sets because it gives individuality to your appreciation and makes it feel more authentic.
