Start outside
While it still might not be the warmest weather outside, it’s very likely that the harsh and unpredictable winter weather may have taken its toll on your home and garden. Pick up any dead leaves and debris around your garden, pull out any weeds and dead plants, and really take the time to remove anything that won’t thrive throughout the year.
Once you have “reset” your garden ready for new plants, it’s time to turn your focus to your home. Has there been any damage to the exterior of your home? This might not be easy to see, especially if you don’t have a good view of your roof. If you have ladders (and someone brave enough), take the time to inspect your roof and guttering.
There might be some simple repairs or replacements, such as a gutter guard, that are worth doing now before they turn into a bigger problem. Of course, don’t put yourself in danger to check your roof and its surroundings, so if you’re not confident going up there, call in a professional.
Check your home is sealed
Before you completely head inside for renovations, take the time to check the windows and doors on your home. You may not have noticed if a few seals weren’t working as well as they should have been, but leaving it can cost you a lot of money.
Most windows and doors have simple seals to replace, but if you’re struggling to find new seals, or you can feel a draught and you’re not sure why, now is the time to call someone in to take a look for you. In the meantime, why not buy some draught excluders to help keep your home insulated?
Move on inside
Now you’ve cleared your garden and resolved any issues with your windows and doors, you can concentrate on the inside of your home. Take the time to do a “spring clean” and remove any clutter from your home. The spring is also a great time to swap out any winter accessories, such as curtains, for a lighter and brighter springtime.
If there is any furniture you’re thinking of getting rid of, take the time to think about how you might upcycle it. For example, an old crib could be turned into a fun play station for the kids!
Finally, even if your home doesn’t need redecorating as such, a great step to take each spring is to wipe down your walls and see if anything needs touching up. Because the weather is that much nicer it shouldn’t take long to dry, and your home will have a little facelift each year to help it look as amazing as always.
