This is a beautiful morning. The kids had over nights with family and me and Aron had a night off. How awesome is that! It's a very welcomed rarity for us to have a quiet night. Our plans were to get up head to the flea market and wander around browsing at all of the awesome local creations.
As I'm sure you know by now, Aron has his good days and bad days and we adjust our lives accordingly. It really sucks to see him go through so much with his feet and legs. We have stopped doing a lot of things because of the unpredictable things that happens.
We were getting ready to for bed last night, after a very awesome week. He fell. His legs just folded right up under him. So today, back to the wheel chair, walker, or at the very least the 4 prong cane.
It is so hard to travel when his legs go out. We used to do so many things. Just pack it up in the van and go. The transmission went out in the van so we just drive the Jeep now. We have no where for the wheel chair to fit and the kids at the same time so, we just make the best of it.
We have found great ways to spend time together here at the house like game night, family movie time, build your own sundae and things like that but, going to the Zoo and Aquarium is a lot of fun too.
Aron is my best friend, my husband, and my #1 fan. He knows that we are all in this together. The last time his legs went out it, was a few months before he was able to walk without assistance of the chair, cane, or holding on to something. Having a vehicle that would work for us instead of against us it would be great.
There is this awesome organization NMEDA- National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association that has all of the things that we would benefit from. They have wheel chair accessible vehicles and road side assistance that will help reassure us that he will not be stranded and alone in an emergency.
The process starts with NMEDA QAP.
QAP- Quality Assistance Program. The program guarantees you a personal Accredited Dealer, so no matter your mobility challenge, you are receiving the expert attention you deserve. This is the kind of vehicle that can carry the equipment you need and also the family you want with you on the road.
We want to be able to get to the doctors office and the grocery store but we are a family in our prime, we want to be able to go on road trips and see the country without the worry of being able to get Aron in and out of the vehicle. Aron hasn't drove in years since the accident. They make vehicles that he would be able to drive.
As a person he has lost his independence because I have to be able to bring him every where he goes. I don't mind, I love him. I would do anything for him. I love the adventure. But, there are things that are so frustrating to him and he keeps it in like a champ.
There are things that he wants like, what if he wants to surprise me with a gift for our anniversary or my birthday, get me flowers to say I love you, just like he used to. He wants to take the kids out for ice cream or to the Daddy Daughter Dance. Give me that little break to get caught up on my work and take over the girl scouts, band practice, cheer leading and basket ball try outs, or simply just for a ride. He can't do that anymore. We are only in our 30's. There is still so much left to do and enjoy and he is limited because of our transportation.
The NMEDA Dealerships are in the US and Canada too. There isn't an over seas order to deal with. We can actually go to one of these dealers and see what is available to us. All NMEDA mobility equipment dealers are required to be QAP accredited, ensuring the highest standards in mobility equipment installations. This unique training program is how NMEDA assures quality, safety, and electro-mechanical integrity of the product delivered to every consumer.
Starting April 12, 2016 for National Mobility Awareness Month, NMEDA will be giving away three wheelchair accessible vehicles: one to a caregiver, one to a senior (60+), and one in the general category. This giveaway is open to everyone to nominate a person in need of one of the vehicles.
Entries are being accepted on April 20 – May 31, 2016, voting for your favorite Local Hero is open May 1 – 31, 2016. This is going to be so much fun to enter into this and the thought of the possibility to actually win.
