4 Reasons You Should Discuss a Health Concern

There is nothing more important than our physical and mental health, yet so many people fail to discuss the concerns affecting their daily lives. Leaving issues to bubble up inside can sometimes lead to other health problems, such as depression or anxiety. It is essential you talk about a health issue with a medical professional or, at the very least, a loved one.
Here are four reasons why it is time to stop bottling your problems up inside and start discussing your concerns.

Emotional Support
Whether you have a physical or mental health concern, you must find a way to talk about your issue. Sometimes just talking about a problem can make a person feel instantly better, because the emotional support can feel like a great weight has been lifted from your shoulders, as you have taken one step towards resolving the issue.

Nip a Problem in the Bud

Your health concern may be warranted, but it might not. You won’t know unless you speak to a medical professional. One thing is certain, putting it off won’t be any help. For example, if you have found a lump in your breast, it is vital you visit your GP for an examination as soon as possible, in the chance the lump is cancerous. However, the lump could be simply due to scar tissue or a cyst that could be easily removed. Make an appointment to find out one way or another. You will be thankful you did.

Banish Embarrassment
We all have parts of our bodies we would like to change. However, there is no reason to be embarrassed about a condition with a medical professional, as they are on-hand to improve your general health and wellbeing, ensuring you live a happy and healthy life.
For example, the thought of a Vaginoplasty might be a little daunting, as you could be too embarrassed to embark with the procedure. However, a certified OB/GYN like David Ghozland, who specializes in Vaginoplasty in Los Angeles, has extensive experience in reconstructive surgeries, dealing with patients with similar requirements every single day – so there really is no reason to be embarrassed. You will, therefore, walk away from the procedure feeling happy and confident in your own skin.

A Resolution
The biggest gift that can come from talking about a problem is the resolution that will follow. The thing that is keeping you awake every night will be gone forever, allowing you to sleep well and live your life to the full. For example, if you are feeling depressed, a doctor may refer you to a counselor to discuss your mental health problems or could prescribe medication to lift your mood.
When it comes to your health, never suffer in silence. Book an appointment with your GP or another healthcare professional, or speak to your partner, family member or a trusted friend about what is worrying you. You can trust they will be more than happy to listen and could also provide the help you need to start taking care of yourself.

  1. I think this is so true and it is important so they are not in the dark and just wondering what is going on

  2. Yes, I have a problem expressing myself out loud. I'll bottle up and hold all of my feelings. I know it's not healthy I need to look into finding someone to talk to.

  3. I am not very good at discussing my health. Not so much that I am embarrassed, but more so I don't want to complain. I need to just lay it all down with my doc. She needs to know what is going on so she can help me, and not head down a path that isn't warranted because I avoided telling her something.

  4. It is very important to talk about your health. Hubby and I are both open about it. We had a scare 4 years ago, as he had colon cancer. It is extremely important to have colonoscopies once you get to the age that you should. Without that we would not have know hubby was ill. I had to have heart surgery last summer, and I am very vocal to hubby on how I feel. I need him to know just in case something bad were to happen. Great post!
