10 Questions Answered with Nutritionist from AmWell Plus 50% Code

I am so excited to tell you about my upcoming visit with Amwell. We have partnered up with them on another campaign. You may have seen my last one with an interview with a lactation specialist. It was a great visit and we got amazing info for our Womb to Walking campaign.

This round is going to be with a dietician. I have struggled with my body for so many years. I'm 36, I'm actually okay with my weight number right now but I would like to find a healthy way to feed my family. We all have different tastes and needs but we could all use a subtle change for the healthier variety.

Having Amwell to be right there when I need them, is awesome. I mean really, I can go to them for anything I need. There are always doctors on the site ready to see me and if there is a specialist I need to see, I can schedule an appointment.

Setting up the appointment is super easy, including scheduling.

Log in to your account or create one. I have been a member since 2015 so all of my info is in there already. It has my personal info as well as my pharmacy info stored. I really like being able to have my info saved for all of the appointments so even I'm in a hurry, I don't forget the important stuff.

Depending on which doctor or specialist you would like to see, you can visit right now or you can schedule an appointment. It's always a good choice to be ready for the visit. I mean, I have a list of questions I would like to ask so I write them down but, I usually come up with more questions because of the answers I get so I keep my pen and paper with me so I can write down anything that I don't want to forget.

What is super awesome about Amwell is, after the appointment, I get an email with the notes and also helpful links for further information. It really is awesome being able to have the visit right from my living room, phone, tablet, or whatever smart device you have.

I know with summer being here we had plans on eating healthier and planning all of our meals. Well, that didn't happen. We have only been home two to three nights a week. I don't know how many miles I have driven but I know that has accumulated some serious gas station hot dogs, loaded nachos, burgers, and fries. Oh, and A BUNCH of pizza.

We need help getting it back together and getting on track with our healthy eating. To be honest, it's a little bit hard with kids. There are so many questions and if there is more than one vegetable on a dinner plate or a vegetable at all offered through the day it's going to be taken as a punishment or worse.

So, how do you get kids to eat healthier without them thinking that I think they are fat or that they are being punished? As I am sure any of you already know, this is a highly sensitive topic. That's why I turned to Amwell and their Nutritionist for help. Together we came up with so many helpful and accommodating ideas that will really help ease us into the healthier lane.

What I was hoping to gain from the appointment is information on more balanced meals, a recommended food ideas that we will enjoy. We don't want to just eat stay alive. We are more live to eat than eat to live kind of people.

I can't wait to share all the great info with you guys and hope you can make some good new choices too.  I get to share a great offer with you too. You get 50% off 1 visit. Use code MOMHELP4 when you visit Amwell. Please note that you have to put your credit card information in to hold the appointment, then once you log back in for your appointment time you will be prompted to enter the promo code.

And for the appointment-

I had a few questions on my list. I elaborated on some of the answers because of our conversation, I hope this is as helpful for you as it is for me.

Q What is a good way to get the kids involved in eating healthier?
A. Make a meal plan they can be a part of. Let them pick out stuff and even help cook it. In my case, my girls are 16 & 11. They are fully capable of cooking whole meals and they love to do it. Protein and carb rich foods at the same time and eating every 3 hours.

Q What are some foods my teen girls should be eating.
It's not always what you eat it's how much you eat that are factors in healthy eating. Staying away from fried and fatty foods is a good idea. Replacing the bad fats for good fats can be pretty hard at first but it's a healthy change.

Q  Do girls need to eat differently to support a menstrual cycle?
A. They don't need to completely eat differently than everyone else. An iron rich diet to help them during menstruation is usually enough. Good sources of iron are red meat, seafood, beans, dark leafy greens, and dried fruits are some for quick reference.

Q How do I get the kids to eat healthier without them thinking that it's a punishment?
A. Letting the kids know that there are reasons you want them to be healthier may help. In the explanation, letting them know that there are health concerns and goals. Make it fun and let them know it's an awesome experience. It's not a punishment to live longer and healthier.

Q Should I quit eating foods that bother me?
A. Since I am getting older, some foods bother me now that wasn't bothering me before. I could take them out and add them back in one at a time to see what I can tolerate. My big killers are milk, green vegetables, and sausages, and a few others.

Q What are foods that support healthy skin, hair, and nails?
A Women need calcium, vitamin D and magnesium for our bones. Biotin is useful for hair and nails and vitamin C for your skin.

Q  Should I be on a special diet because of my age or other health issues.
A I don't need to eat differently than the rest of the family. The whole family can eat together.

Q Where is a good place to create/post a meal plan?
A Post it in a common area like on the fridge.

Q What are good resources for helping to track healthy eating?

Q How do I know the correct portions?
A. Your eyes will deceive you! There are some awesome portion plates and containers, either one will help. There are also more traditional ways to measure foods by measuring cups and spoons.

I hope this post helps you as much as it did me. I love being able to find helpful ways to be a healthier person and help my family along the way. Amwell is a great way to do that. They accept some insurances and cash payment for their patients. With the code I posted "MOMHELP4", you get one appointment for 50% off which brings it down to $29.50!! To be honest cost wise, that's amazing. I have never been to a doctor for that price.

  10. Eating healthy these days are so important. Kids need to be taught WHY eating healthy means staying healthy longer. Junk foods tend to slow down kid's developmental stages and just slows them down mentally and physically. Great review!

  16. Amwell sounds amazing! I was just diagnosed with diabetes and I have received no
formal training on what is a low carbohydrate diet and what is my meal plan. I
would love to meet with a nutritionist and have her answer my questions. I 'll
    be looking into this.

  17. I think since my sons are in their 30's and seeing how healthy eating has made my quality of life better they have been eating much healthier. More fresh fruits and veggies (non-GMO's) as well as nuts.
