International Correspondence Writing Month Is Perfect For Family & Friends

Everything is so fast nowadays. Really, everything is "right now" with instant gratification.  There is no sentimental anticipation like in the good old days. Nowadays, when someone doesn't reply or leaves you unread for a matter of minutes, it's frustrating. Let's take a step back and take the time to hand write a letter or even a simple note to someone special.

I had two friends that were pen pals with me. We write back and forth so much. We wrote letters that were close to journals of our lives sharing everything important that happened daily while commenting on their daily lives. It was really long distance conversations that were like little pieces of anticipation. I looked forward to those letters when I checked the mailbox. It was nice knowing they were coming. My longest letter was 26 pages front and back. I should have known then I would end up in the writing profession. I can say without a doubt, my penmanship is way harder to read than my typing!!

So, I am putting a change out there. Write a letter each day of this month to someone special. Even if you happen to pick a local individual instead of someone far away. It's so simple to take a few minutes to say hello to someone. If you have a moment of time that you can sit and write to someone but don't know what to say or how to begin, Think of statements in your life that can be turned into questions. Here are a few conversation lengtheners:

  1. Hi, How are you?
  2. You will never believe what happened at school/work today/this week!
  3. Do you know when you will be coming over next?
  4. Do you want to go out for dinner next week?
  5. How do you make (specific recipe)?
  6. My pets snore. do your pets snore?
  7. I am so proud of you for (anything).
  8. How is your family? You'll never guess what (family member) did!
  9. Do you have any concerts or shows coming up in your area? Are you going to attend?
  10. Have you heard of (musician)? Their new release was (so good/so bad).

What you need to write a handwritten letter is so simple. Paper, writing instrument, envelope, stamp, and thought. Thanks to Pilot Pen, we have everything we need to add creativity to any note. The sent us four new Enso Creativity Tools to make it happen.

For me, I am actually writing letters to my children. I know we see each other every day but, there are so many things that are easier to say on paper uninterrupted than there is to say face to face with a teenager. I'm sure they think the same.

  1. This is a good idea. I miss the days when we had to write letters because there was no Facebook and long distance phone calls were too expensive!

    1. I hear ya. I still love writing letters; though I don’t get around to doing it as often as I’d like.📫
