We spend many hours molding the human body, shaping it with exercise, lifting butts and tightening tummies. We workout to feel the endorphins rush through our bodies, to feel alive and to feel like we have control of something good. Physical exercise feels good, and with the ability to mold and adapt our bodies, we also have the same ability to mold and adapt our minds.
To reach our maximum potential, we need to work both minds and bodies together. Training your mind is just as hard as physical training, but the more you do it the easier it becomes. In order to get the best out of ourselves, we need to leave our comfort zones and push ourselves to the best that we can be. Let’s look at four ways that we can exercise and shape our minds just as easily as we can our bodies.
Get Involved In Sports
Yep, sports are here for physical wellbeing and fitness, but they have just as many mental benefits as anything else. Aerobic exercise that gets you breathing and your heart pumping has just as many benefits as the physical ones. It improves the connections in your brain and influences your working memory. There are cognitive benefits to sport, and the more we move our bodies, the better our brains react.
Train Your Working Memory
Think about the ways that you remember things. The more you do them, the better you become at them and that’s because your memory is playing a big part in the puzzle. When you’re trying to learn the lines of a song, to remember the pattern of a game and even trying to learn piano in 21 days, you can train your working memory. Rinsing and repeating the things that you are learning can train your memory properly, leaving you to feel as if you are learning something. That has a positive effect on your confidence, which makes you want to learn things that are more difficult!
Enhance Your Creativity
Do you love to play an instrument? Paint? Sing? To improve cognition, we need to do more than just memory exercises. We need to embrace things that can make us feel happier. The happier we feel, the better our mental health. Fight a sedentary lifestyle and do what you can to be creative. Hobbies can help, and performing activities that enhance your creativity will induce better mental flexibility and originality.
Meditate
Lastly, take a break. Our brains go through an awful lot of stress every single day. It can be everything to just take a moment, step back and relax. Let the oxytocin flow through you and breathe slowly and calmly. A moment of calm reflection can exercise your brain in ways you never thought were possible. If you meditate, you can learn to truly relax and let go of the little stresses that build up throughout the day.

These are great ideas. Games a re good for your brain too!
