Losing a tooth is a right of passage. All little kids anticipate the moment when their first tooth falls out. There is something magical about a tooth falling out, a Tooth Fairy coming to leave a token of gratitude, and taking the tooth to a magical mystical place, and doing something with it. I’m sure every family’s tooth fairy does something unique with teeth that only the parents will know. It’s part of their magic too.
My mom was so full of mommy magic that my childhood was a never-ending stream of wonder. I just want to add in, now that I’m a mom, I know how challenging that can be at times and I love you and appreciate you for it. I’m from an era that if you wanted to talk to the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, or Santa, you wrote a letter asking for proof that they were real. Nowadays, it’s way more interactive than that.
My nieces and nephew are working their way through December with Elf on the Shelf and all of his shenanigans while planning for the biggest night of the year (next to their birthdays), and Aliyah loses a tooth. How much more action-packed can this- one week before Christmas- really be! It’s been so exciting already and now the tooth fairy is coming too!
Let me back it up some, I want to share why this is all so awesome.
This is actually a really cool story, I want to tell you the whole thing. All I can say is timing is EVERYTHING and I love the way the universe plays out.
My mom has been raising my nieces and nephew for the past year and a half which comes with a set of challenges that I didn’t know existed until I saw it first hand. Being the older person that I am, my brother and 1 have an 11-year gap. My kids are nearly out of school while his are in early elementary. So my mom, who was a child of the 60s, where kindergarten was optional, is raising kids in the 2020s. There is such a huge technological difference and so many other different things from when she raised me in the 80s and my brother in the 90s.
She didn’t know anything about Google Meets, video conference, telehealth, or anything like that until she got the kids mid-Pandemic. It was an adjustment, to say the least. In her day and in ours, if you wanted to talk to a doctor or teacher, you hopped in the car and went to the building of the required meeting. All of this new "from home" stuff is convenient but very confusing at times.
She’s a quick learner. She is definitely seeing and feeling the difference between school-age kids in the 80s vs school-aged kids in the 2020s.
My nieces and nephews have lost quite a few teeth between them already so, the tooth fairy has made several visits to the Roberts household. It’s always highly anticipated and all 3 of the little guys wake up in excitement to see what the tooth fairy brought, even if it wasn’t their tooth.
My niece Aliyah, is 10. She’s teetering on the brink of knowing the adult secrets but because there are still little ones, the magic is still very much alive. If she ever doubted the magic, she doesn’t now, is all I have to say.
So here’s the setting of the Big Magic. The kids had just got done with dinner and the hustle and bustle of pre-bedtime tasks like picking up their rooms, getting ready for baths, and double-checking homework was going on. Normal everyday stuff. But the ordinary turned extraordinary VERY FAST!
Grammy was sitting at the computer checking emails when out of nowhere they got a video call coming through! It was too late for the teacher… instantly all 3 of the little guys, Aliyah (10), Addy (8), and Rylan (7) were being a little nosey trying to see who it was. Holy Cow! Could it be real??! It was the Tooth Fairy!! Calling on a Video Call!
They were all so amazed! She was far from anything they had ever imagined! She was beautiful and young! She wasn’t even old! At all!
She had pink hair and blueish silvery wings, and she was EVERYTHING they could have hoped for! And on top of that, she knew so much about teeth, but why wouldn’t she, she was THEEEEE TOOTH FAIRY!!
The kids had questions and she was quick to answer them all. There are Tooth Fairies of every age, size, and color. They are all nice and they all know A Lot about teeth.
She talked to my niece Aliyah and chimed right in with the other 2, including them all in the call. She told them about good oral hygiene, how to brush in circles, and to brush for at least 2 minutes every time, and to brush twice a day. Make sure they floss in between teeth too. After seeing the cat walk bye, she asked if another tried brushing her teeth. That’s been one of the things they’ve held onto the past few days asking if I brush my cats' teeth. These guys are so funny!
They asked what she does with all of the teeth she collects and she said the perfect answer! She climbs up the highest mountain to throw them up to the sky, and they turn into stars! How magical is that?!
Before they got off their video call, she reminded them to make sure their rooms were cleaned so she didn’t trip over anything trying to get to Aliyah's tooth. They were SO happy that they all went back to their rooms to get everything picked up so the tooth fairy wouldn’t see messy rooms when she got there. Not only were they excited to go to bed, but they also volunteered to clean their rooms. That’s a win-win if I’ve ever seen one!
I would love to thank Leah the Tooth Fairy and Virtual Tooth Fairy for making it all happen.
Who is Virtual Tooth Fairy?
Virtual Tooth Fairy is a telehealth company that specializes in oral care.
How do I get a call for my kids?
Setting up an account is so easy! I had my account set up in just a few minutes. I set up my account and set up the call picking my own time slot. They have so many options for time available which is amazing because we have busy lives.
Personalized messages Before and After the video call.
Before the video call, I received an email that came full of anticipation material for Aliyah with coloring pages and how to click the link to wait for the call. Because of our busy house schedule, she didn’t get the email until after the call which was even more impressive. She said “ How did she know I lost my tooth? Was she waiting for me all day!!” It was so awesome to hear how excited she was and how authentic Leah the Tooth Fairy is.
After the call, Aliyah received a second email talking about how happy she was to meet the whole family. She sent a link to the Sugar Bugs book which is an adorable children’s book all about teeth and caring for them.
