So... How is your summer going so far? Good I hope. So what about your summer travels? Ours have been going great. We have been doing some really awesome stuff going amazing places and learning how to travel on a lower budget.
I want to share a few tips with you that we have discovered really help keep our trips cleaner, and more cost effective.
Vacationing is expensive unless you figure out ways to save. Food is the biggest expense while traveling. That is the one thing you can not avoid. The whole family has to eat.
#1- Staying in a motel that has a kitchen. That is the most cost effective by far. We can travel with the food we want to cook. Buy our fresh groceries for the stay while we are there and be able to spend our travel dollars on other funner things than just the necessities like food.
Traveling meals are more expensive. For a family of 4, breakfast at a drive through $20, Lunch $30, and dinner is $60. That is $110 a day plus drinks and snacks throughout the day. That's an easy $150. That is $1050 for one week of eating out-YIKES
Where as eating meals at home for 4 of us is about $200 a week. That is over $800 more than a regular budget. By staying in a motel with a kitchen like we did at Extended Stay America, What we could save in a week in groceries, can just about pay for the whole week of motel. That is the easiest way to cut the vacation cost in half!
#2 Pack a cooler for tooling around! Staying at a motel, there will be an ice machine most likely. Getting a few cases of sodas, chips, and a case of water, will cost about $20 for the whole trip and will pay for itself by skipping the first gas station for snacks and drinks.
Something that we have found to be really awesome while we are traveling are the O-Sip! Sippy Lids. These are perfect for the top of kid sized cups but also perfect for drink cans. We love them. It's absolutely perfect. Nothing else is needed. Just the drink and the lid, that is so easy to wash off.
These fit right over the top of the can and they stay in place because of the silicone material. They fit over more than just a drink can but this is just the most popular use for us.
These guys also make a top that has a straw hole lid which is also perfect for traveling No spills at all.
With the weather being hot and carrying drinks around with us, there is always a worry of a bug crawling in my drink. That came from my aunt drinking a can of soda that a bee crawled into and stung her tongue. OUCH!
These are also sold in 3 packs so that is great for families with more than one kid. They know which drink belongs to each kid and the smartest one that says, this is fuller, it's mine, won't always win.
These lids are sibling squabble reducers!! Priceless!!!
#3 Use refillable soap bottles. This is a great option for any traveling famliy. The small 2 ounce soap bottles and a travel toiletry bag is the perfect match for a vacation on a budget.
These are also one of those items that pays for itself on the first trip. Each mini is $1-$3 shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, & tooth paste. 1 -5 pack of bottles is $3 and you fill them with soap you already have. PERFECT!
Better than that, they are reusable. I have been using my same travel bottle set for over a year. They are great for any kind of trip.
I received one or more of these products for free in exchange of an honest, unbisade review. If you have any questions about these product, please feel free to email us directly at [email protected] or [email protected]

I always stay in a place with a kitchen, and we travel with an electric wok.

ReplyDeleteVacationing can be very expensive. Needless to say we don't vacation alot. You are so right about food, drinks and snacks. It is way to expensive to eat out. I love these sippy lids. I will have to check them out soon. Thank you so much for sharing
